Library Closure Extended to April 13

We are here for you, and we are in this together.

As we respond to the latest information and guidelines from local and national officials around the COVID-19 virus, we want to make sure you have the latest information about your library.

As you are aware, updates and best practices are ever-evolving, so please visit the library’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) for the most current information.

  • o Please do not return library materials while we are closed.
  • o Book drops are closed.
  • o You won’t be charged late fines on materials previously checked out at any Grosse Pointe Public Library building. More on this below.
  • Your holds will stay on the holds shelves until we reopen to the public.

How long will buildings be closed?

Right now, following Governor Whitmer’s order, all three library buildings are closed to the public until 9 am Monday, April 13. That could change.

We are working remotely, answering your questions on account access and your digital library.

Call us at 313-640-GPPL and leave a message. Or ask us via email at circulation@grossepointelibrary.org. A library staff member will respond as soon as possible. In the meantime, here are some quick answers to your most asked questions.

Can I still access digital library materials?
Yes! We encourage you to explore your digital library with your library card. Visit https://grossepointelibrary.org/ebooks-movies-music


Can I access online learning resources?
Yes! There’s so much waiting for you! Get started finding, learning, and creating at https://grossepointelibrary.org/research-learning


What if I do not have a Grosse Pointe Public Library card?
You can apply for an online card to give you immediate access to most of our digital resources visit https://grossepointelibrary.org/get-a-card

My GPPL account is blocked. What can I do?

Contact us at circulation@grossepointelibrary.org and we will work with you.

Can I still place holds on physical items?
No, not at this time.

Can I make an interlibrary loan request?

No, not at this time. Any requests for physical materials will be postponed until the library reopens.

How do I return borrowed materials?
Keep them for now, and you can return your materials when we reopen. Remember, there are no late fines for GPPL items.

Can I return materials to book drops?
Not yet. At this time all book drops have been sealed, and we no longer have staff on site to collect and empty book drops. We ask that you please hold on to your materials until at least April 13.


Will I be charged overdue fines for non GPPL materials, like MeL? No, there are no overdue fine for GPPL materials or MeL


Can I drop off book donations?
Not yet. Please keep your materials donations (books, DVDs, CDs), as we can’t accept them right now.

Is the library making outreach visits?
Not right now. We are not making any visits or deliveries anywhere, including homes, daycares, or senior centers but we are staying connected virtually.

Can I make new meeting room reservations?
Not yet. We are still working to reschedule cancelled meetings and events.

How is the library handling materials during this time?
We are not. There is no borrowing or lending of any physical materials during the library closure.

Before opening again to the public, how will the library handle the cleaning of spaces?
Thoroughly.
We will clean spaces following CDC guidelines.
