Special Message from the Library Director
Library's response to the Coronavirus
The health and safety of our patrons, staff and the community is our top priority. That’s why we want to share our response to the coronavirus/COVID-19 situation and offer some reassurance and advice to you.
First, please know the GPPL is fully operational. All scheduled events, programs and activities are going ahead as planned. We are committed to full transparency and will keep you informed if the situation changes.
We continue to follow best hygiene practices for workplaces – including regularly cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and equipment in our buildings, making hand sanitizer available to staff and patrons and encouraging frequent hand washing.
As some patrons have asked, the Library does not currently disinfect borrowed materials when they are checked in or as they are browsed or used in-house. Disinfecting these types of items and materials is currently not recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Naturally, we encourage everyone to practice good hygiene and other healthy habits, such as washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. And if you don’t have a tissue handy, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
We encourage any concerned patrons, especially those in high-risk populations, to stay home if they are feeling ill or are simply concerned about potential exposure
We will continue to communicate any further impacts to the Library system as a result of COVID-19. In the meantime, as a reminder, the Library has many digital services available to you for free, such as e-books and audiobooks, online movies and music and digital subscriptions to newspapers and magazines.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
