TITLE: Technology Assistant (Part Time)

FSLA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE: Up to 19 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends

REPORTS TO: Technology Manager

WAGE: $15 per hour, to start

SUMMARY

The Grosse Pointe Public Library is seeking a professional and resourceful Technology Assistant to support the Library’s customer service needs. The Grosse Pointe Public Library is a Class 6 Library, with a service population of 52,000+ people and three branches. There is strong community support for the Library and its collections, services and programs offered. Technology is integrated into Library services. The successful candidates will have the desire to work in a collaborative, team environment and take pride in providing prompt and friendly service to customers of all ages, and have a passion for serving the community.

The Technology Assistant supports patrons and staff using library technology, including using public computers, printing services, and internet access. The successful candidate will enjoy helping people, providing professional, friendly and helpful assistance to patrons and staff in using technology. Performs project work as directed by the Technology Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • • Sets up computer hardware and software at all branches of the Library at direction of the Technology Manager, performing maintenance when necessary, and making appropriate recommendations for repair and replacement.
  • • Sets up audio-visual equipment for staff and public programs.
  • • Responds to service requests at all three branches and arranges access for service technicians.
  • • Prepares statistical data and reports, creates and maintains system documentation.
  • • As a member of the Technology Team, participates in hardware and software purchase recommendations, and assists in the development of library policies and procedures.
  • • Works with the Maker-Space team, including monitoring lab, assisting users, assembling/maintaining workstations, developing instructions, and keeping the space clean and safe.
  • • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS :

MINIMUM:

  • • High School Diploma
  • • Experience on help desk or in computer hardware or software setup
  • • Strong familiarity with Windows, Office, Google and other popular computing environments
  • • Knowledge of audio-visual equipment
  • • Familiarity with mobile technology and apps for Apple, Android, and others
  • • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • • Attention to detail, dependable and flexible
  • • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • • Finds enjoyment in learning and trying new things
  • • Enthusiasm for working with the public and serving patrons of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities

DESIRABLE:

  • • Knowledge and experience working with Windows operating system and hardware, networking using Windows Active Directory, Ethernet and WIFI networking, Adobe Creative Cloud, Zoom video collaboration.
  • • Associates degree in IT field, or current college level course-work in IT or Computer Science.
