Grosse Pointe Grows
When we grow food, our community grows! When we grow flowers, our community blooms!
Checking Out Seeds
The Seed Library is available from March 1 through May 31. It's based on the honor system. We ask that everyone be kind and respect this as a shared community service. A GPPL library card is required to request seeds on our website. There is no cost to borrow seeds.
Borrowing Limits
The limit for borrowing seed packets is as follows:
No more than 2 packs of a variety per household
No more than 25 packs per household per season. No more than 15 packs can be placed on hold per season. Please visit the Ewald Branch for the full seed collection.
About the Seed Library
The Seed Library is part of the Grosse Pointe Public Library and is located at the Ewald Branch. The purpose of the Seed Library is to:
- Encourage our community to dig in and garden
- Reconnect our community to the tradition of growing nutritious and delicious food
- Learn about growing and saving seeds
- Adapt heirloom varieties to our environment
- Engage with both experienced and novice gardeners
Seeds in the Collection
Every effort has been made to ensure that seeds in the Seed Library are open-pollinated, non-gmo, heirloom, native, non-invasive, and easy to grow.
Quality Control
To ensure the quality and integrity of the Seed Library, we do not accept donations.
We prioritize clean, mature, open-pollinated, non-invasive seeds that are sourced from reputable and known origins.
Seeds of questionable or unknown origins will not be used or distributed.
Saving Seeds
The Seed Library provides access to seeds, gardening knowledge and learning opportunities.
Our resources are meant to help you learn how to save seeds so you have them for your own use next growing season.
