Grosse Pointe Grows
When we grow food, our community grows! When we grow flowers, our community blooms!
Checking Out Seeds
The Seed Library is available from March 2 through May 30. Seeds are available only at the Ewald Branch and must be picked up in person. Seed packets may not be requested online. To request seeds, patrons must fill out a short form (available at Ewald) and bring it to the Service Desk for a staff member to fill the request. There is no cost to borrow seeds.
Borrowing Limits
The limit for borrowing seed packets is as follows:
1 pack per variety per household
10 packs per household per month of availability
About the Seed Library
The Seed Library is part of the Grosse Pointe Public Library and is located at the Ewald Branch. The purpose of the Seed Library is to:
- Encourage our community to dig in and garden
- Reconnect our community to the tradition of growing nutritious and delicious food
- Learn about growing and saving seeds
- Adapt heirloom varieties to our environment
- Engage with both experienced and novice gardeners
Seeds in the Collection
Every effort has been made to ensure that seeds in the Seed Library are open-pollinated, non-GMO, heirloom, native, non-invasive, and easy to grow.
Quality Control
To ensure the quality and integrity of the Seed Library, we do not accept donations.
We prioritize clean, mature, open-pollinated, and non-invasive seeds sourced from reputable and well-known origins.
Seeds of questionable or unknown origins will not be used or distributed.
Saving Seeds
The Seed Library provides access to seeds, gardening knowledge and learning opportunities.
Our resources are meant to help you learn how to save seeds so you have them for your own use next growing season.
