May 1 Last Day to Buy Tickets

Get ready for an unforgettable literary experience as the 2024 Books on the Lake welcomes authors Bonnie Jo Campbell and Brendan Slocumb.

“Books on the Lake is our signature author event where the library features authors selected by our library staff,” said Jessica Keyser, Library Director. “This year’s authors will not disappoint and will be available at the end of the program to autograph books.”

The brunch is Saturday, May 11 at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. Tickets are $40 per person. Tickets are on sale online until Monday, May 1.

The New York Times said, “Brendan Slocumb’s first novel, The Violin Conspiracy, displayed his deftness at crafting character-driven stories featuring amateur sleuths with a deep reverence for music history…With his pitch-perfect follow-up, Symphony of Secrets, he firmly establishes himself as a maestro of musical mystery.”

A native of North Carolina, Slocumb graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a degree in music education, concentrations in Violin and Viola. He was a music educator for kindergarten through twelfth grade and was named the 2005 Teacher of the Year for Robert E. Lee High School and is a Nobel Teacher of distinction. He also serves as an educational consultant for the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. He’s working on his third novel slated for publication in 2025.

Michigan author, Bonnie Jo Campbell’s novels include The Waters, selected as Jenna Bush Hager’s January 2024 book club pick, Once Upon a River, a National Bestseller and Q Road. Her critically acclaimed short fiction collections include American Salvage, which was a finalist for both the National Book Award and the National Book Critic’s Circle Award; Women and Other Animals won the AWP prize for short fiction and Mothers, Tell Your Daughters.
